Cycling shoes fit far different from your average shoes. Cycling shoes will have a stiff sole for dependable power transfer, which also makes them feel quite rigid. Look for a shoe which cups your heel and reduces movement. They shouldn’t fit like a ski boot, having extra room in the toe box enables you to wiggle your toes on long rides and accommodate swelling on hot days.
